Biomass
The word “biomass” refers to organic matter that has accumulated energy by the photosynthesis process. It remains in one way as plants and can be passed through the food chain to the bodies and wastes of animals, both of which can be converted into daily human use through methods such as combustion, which releases the carbon dioxide contained in plant material.
Malaysia generates at least 168 million tonnes of biomass waste per year. In general, palm oil waste accounts for 94% of biomass feedstock while the remaining contributors are agricultural and forestry by-products. Several campaigns are being launched by the government to encourage the long-term use of Malaysia’s biomass resources.
